Senior Tour player seeks putting advice

A European Senior Tour player came to see me this week regarding his putting. His perception was that he did not have particularly good distance control and complained of inconsistency with longer putts.

On closer inspection it became clear that the player wasn’t using his eyes properly during his preshot routine. He was focusing on the apex of the break which was often only half way along the putting line.

The problem with this is that the apex doesn’t have distance relevance. By asking the player to select a target to focus on level with the hole allowed his natural distance control and feel to be accessed.

It turned out that he had pretty much perfect distance control and left a much happier putter! has videos clearly illustrating this concept with practice drills to encourage the natural distance control and feel that all golfers possess!
